Mara

Mara CroppedThe Mara Region is situated by Lake Victoria and shares a border with Kenya. Agriculture forms a large part of the economy, producing cash crops such as coffee, seed oils and cotton as well as food crops such as millet, maize, paddy, sweet potatoes and cassava. Livestock rearing focusses mainly on cattle, sheep and goats. Textiles, cotton ginneries and food processing form the main industries in Mara. Part of the Serengeti National Park lies within Mara, making the region an attractive destination for eco-tourism. Other attractions include Lake Victoria and its many beaches and caves, and the area is known for its diversity of wildlife and fish.
