Gwembe

The Gwembe District is located in the valley of the Zambezi escarpment in the Southern Province. The district has an estimated population of 53,000 people, and traditional systems of land tenure system are followed and households are allocated land by traditional leadership. Farming is the primary means of subsistence, and the main crops include maize, millet and sorghum. The district is mostly mountainous interspersed by fast drying ravines.
