Budaka

Budaka District, named for its chief town, is located in the Eastern Region of Uganda. Prior to 2005, Budaka was part of the Pallisa District and the former Budaka County. Tourist destinations in the area are as yet unexploited, but include Mount Elgon, Lake Kyoga and various rivers which are home to various birds and aquatic life.

The district is situated within Uganda’s cattle corridor and as such engages in cattle, poultry and goat rearing, activities which have attracted re-stocking government initiatives. The main economic activity, however, is crop production, which employs more than 85% of people. Crops include bananas, cassava, millet, cotton and matooke. Recently, Uganda Clays Ltd have opened a tile and brick manufacturing plant at Kamonkoli, further helping to boost the local economy.
