Forestry, together with fisheries and agriculture contributes 3% to the country’s GDP (2008), and cover around 21% of the country (2005). The  economic value of the nation’s forests is confined to providing a resource for charcoal production, wattle harvesting for fish pots and eco-tourism. The forestry division of the Ministry of Agriculture Lands, Housing & the Environment is the primary government ministry responsible for the sector.
