There are a number of national agencies to be found in Antigua and Barbuda that are publicly funded and established by Acts of parliament. These include bodies, commissions, state-owned enterprises or authorities in a variety of fields. The Antigua Public Utilities Authorities (APUA) maintains the telecommunication, electricity and water network of the country; the Antigua and Barbudan National Accreditation Board (ABNAB) is responsible for the accreditation and certification of official documents, thus providing professional quality in the country; and the Antigua and Barbuda Free Trade and Processing Zone (ABFTPC), was established in 1994 in order to economically diversify the state, promote its exported goods and ensure free enterprise.
