The Bahamas has no oil. Oil is imported to meet the country’s energy needs and is exclusively dependent on oil and gas to generate its electricity. Global names Shell, Esso (ExxonMobil) and Texaco (Chevron) operate downstream services in the country, mainly the selling and distribution of petrol, jet fuel, diesel and lubricants. Shell service stations in the country are managed by FOCOL/Sun Oil Bahamas, a Bahamian company. The Bahamas Oil Refining Company International (BORCO) owns and operates oil storage, fuel blending and marine facilities at Freeport.
