Find Media and Broadcasting expertise in Bangladesh
The media is viewed by independent observers as free in part. Notably, the newspaper industry within the country is entirely privately owned and there is a prevalent practice of owner-editorship. The leading English newspapers are The Daily Star, The Bangladesh Observer, New Age, The New Nation, Holiday (weekly) and the Dhaka Courier (weekly). English-language titles appeal mainly to an educated urban readership. The popular newspapers in Bengali include Dainik Ittefaq, the daily Prothom Alo and the Dainik Jugantar. The main broadcasters are the state-owned Radio Bangladesh and Bangladesh Television (BTV). The government-owned Radio Bangladesh operates main networks from Dhaka and local services at other places.
The Ministry of Information regulates the sector. The Bangladesh Press Council, established in 1979, aims to preserve and protect the freedom of the press, maintaining and improving the standard of newspapers and news agencies.
