Find Trade Union expertise in Bangladesh

The country has many trade unions and over 20 trade union centres, but these are confined to the urban areas. Due to this, the figures for trade-union involvement are artificially low and hide the almost complete participation of the urban population of public-sector employees, and a significant proportion of private-sector employees. Trade-union activism is highly political in part with several trade unions linked to different political parties. Trade unions have a reputation for holding zealous strikes, known as “hartels”. The obvious limitations imposed on such organisations due to the fact that Bangladesh is a lesser-developed country are expected to gradually erode away as the country’s infrastructure improves.
