The state-run National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), arranges the publication, distribution and sale of textbooks at the primary and secondary levels. The board is particularly innovative in the way it has begun to distribute free electronic versions of certain textbooks on the internet. These e-books are available in both Bengali and English. There is more private-sector involvement in higher-level education, with many companies producing a wide selection of textbooks, though many have to be imported into the country.
