Standards and Regulation in Barbados

The work that is done by several regulators in most countries is done by one body in Barbados, the Fair Trading Commission. It acts as the consumer protection agency, promotes fair business competition and is the utility regulatory body, including telecommunications. Key regulators also include the Central Bank of Barbados and the Supervisor of Insurance and Pensions and Securities Commission of Barbados, which are regulators of the financial sector and key points of contact when setting up an offshore operation. Barbados is a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The coordinating bureau for standards in the country is the Barbados National Standards Institute (BNSI).
