Research Institutes in Barbados

There are a few higher education institutions and independent research institutes in Barbados involved in undertaking research across several disciplines. Notable among these is the Planning, Research & International Relations Unit that undertakes research to inform educational policy in the construction of key strategies to solve problems in Barbados’s education system. The Bellairs Research Institute of Montreal’s McGill University is Canada’s only teaching and research facility in the tropics and is located in Barbados; the institute specialises in research relating to marine and terrestrial environments. The Caribbean Agricultural Research & Development Institute (CARDI) carries out research in areas of agricultural development and collaborates with the Government of Barbados and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).
