Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of Belize is appointed by the Governor-General, with the understanding that the person chosen is the leader of the political party which commands the support of the majority of the members of the House of Representatives; or if no party has a majority, an individual which has this equivalent degree of support. Much like the British system, the prime minister retains his office until he loses this majority of support from within the House of Representatives. The prime minister is also the head of the Cabinet and thus selects its members, who, in turn, act as the various administrative arms of the Government.
