Find Oil and Gas expertise in Brunei Darussalam

The oil sector is dominated by Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), which is a joint venture between Royal Dutch Shell and the Government of Brunei.  It operates the only oil refinery in the country and for many years was the only oil producer.  However the government has allowed other energy companies to search for oil, as estimates of oil and gas reserves are rising with new offshore discoveries. Among them are Total, BHP Billiton (Australia), Valiant International Petroleum (UK) and Amerada Hess.  Mitsubishi and ConocoPhillips have also been awarded exploration contracts. In 2002, the government established Brunei National Petroleum as a state company for oil exploration. Brunei is the fourth largest producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) (2010).  Brunei Liquefied Natural Gas (BLNG) is the sole manufacturer of LNG.  It is a joint venture between Mitsubishi (25 % ownership), Shell (25%) and the government (50%).

The oil and gas sector contributes about 68% of GDP (2011) and the major part of exports. Average daily oil production in 2012 was 158,000 barrels. Proven reserves of oil were estimated in January 2013 to be 1.1 billion barrels, and of gas, 300 billion cubic metres.
