Research Institutes in Dominica

Like many of its Caribbean neighbours, the research institutes within Dominica focus on local issues of significance such as the environment and agriculture. Major examples include the Institute for Tropical Marine Ecology, which focuses on marine ecology — especially coral studies; the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute, which focuses its studies on roots and tubers, fruit crops and hot peppers; and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture. These institutes also reflect the importance of agriculture to the country, both in its history and in the contemporary socio-economic environment.
