Since 2010, the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has been responsible for providing water and sewerage to the population of Fiji. This body is known as a ‘commercial statutory authority’ that receives money from, and is responsible to, the government for the 44 water treatment facilities the country holds. There are currently 150,000 commercial and residential customers that are metered, which are part of almost 800,000 people that rely on WAF for their water. Fiji also has a substantial water bottling industry – Fiji Water is the largest company in this sector and claimed to represent 3% of the country’s GDP in 2010.
