Bilateral and Multilateral Co-operation

Fiji is a member of international organisations such as the United Nations (UN), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Pacific Islands Forum. The Asian Development Bank and the Commonwealth have suspended Fiji’s membership to their organisations indefinitely.

Fiji enjoys strong bilateral and multilateral relationships with its neighbours in the Pacific, which often comes in the form of trade agreements. Examples of these agreements include: the Melanesian Spearhead Group Trade Agreement (MSGTA), the Pacific Islands Countries Trade Agreement (PICTA) and the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER). As of 2011 Fiji did not have a specialised department for overseeing humanitarian assistance.
