Grenada has approximately 25 trade unions in operation. In 2006 there were eight prominent unions in Grenada. These were the Grenada Union of Teachers (GUT), Technical and Allied Workers’ Union (TAWU), Public Workers Union, Bank and General Workers Union (BGWU), Commercial and Industrial Workers Union (CIWU), Taxi Owners and Drivers Association (TODA), Seamen and Waterfront Workers Union (SWWU), and Grenada Maritime Manual and Intellectual Workers Union (GMMIWU). One of the most influential trade unions in Grenada is the Bank and General Workers Union; this is because it protects worker’s rights. The national trade union centre for Grenada is the Grenada Trade Union Council (GTUC). Grenada’s unions are affiliated with a wide range of regional and international trade unions.  The Grenada Trade Union Council is affiliated to Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL), which represents around 500,000 members, and the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU), which represents approximately 125 million trade union members.
