Find Property and Real Estate expertise in Guyana

The acquisition or leasing of land in Guyana is dependent on its classification. There are four classes of land in Guyana: state owned, private transported or titled land, government owned and industrial estates. State and Government owned lands are usually leased rather than sold. The government is an important actor in the property sector. Through the Central Housing and Planning Authority the government strives to address the housing needs of Guyanese citizens by divesting government land for residential use by eligible citizens, granting security of tenure and developing housing schemes. A tax on property is levied annually and is dependent on the value of the property. Foreign ownership of land and property is permitted and foreign nationals wishing to acquire or dispose of property in the country are treated in the same manner as Guyanese citizens.
