Essentials in India

A visa is essential for entry into India, and this in itself will require a passport and an onward travel ticket. Visas are usually of the multiple entry variety, and mostly valid for six months. These are obtained from any Indian mission worldwide. The World Health Organisation recommends the following vaccinations for visitors of less than a month: Adult diphtheria and tetanus, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Polio, Typhoid, and Varicella (2011). Medications should be packed in their original packets, and need to be clearly labelled. Doctors’ notes should be obtained for any needles/ syringes; and medication should be taken in abundance, as many of the newer drugs might not be available. Travel insurance is necessary, and will vary on cost depending on the activities being enacted during the visit.
