Kiribati is a net importer of goods and services. It net imports accounted for 107% of GDP (2004). At present, no export duty is charged on exportable items. There are also no restrictions on items for export, however, for marine products an export licence from the Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Natural Resources Development is required. Import duties are relatively low and exemptions might be provided for investment project items. The main exports are copra 62%, coconuts, seaweed and fish; and the main imports are foodstuffs, machinery and equipment, miscellaneous manufactured goods and fuel. Its main export destinations were Japan, Bangladesh, Europe and the United States. Imports were sourced mainly from Australia, Fiji, Japan and New Zealand.
