Research and Consultancy in Kiribati

Consultancy lacks a substantial native base in Kiribati. However, it should be noted that the government does make use of Australian and Kiwi firms in various forms.  Examples of this outsourcing of consultancy work includes dealing with the future impact of climate change on the country, especially the impact of rising sea levels; the management of marine resources, such as the prevention of over-fishing; fulfilling the role of certain professions such as law consultants and ombudsman; and other areas of public sector consultancy. Much of this expertise is provided through aid arrangements and other bilateral agreements with Kiribati’s neighbours and more developed nations.
