Standards and Regulation in Kiribati

Kiribati has no standards organisation, and is not a member of the ISO. Major regulators in the country include the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning for the financial sector, Telecommunications Authority of Kiribati for the telecoms sector, the Public Utilities Board for infrastructure, Foreign Investment Commission for all FDI proposals and the Lands Management Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Rural Development regarding the purchasing of land. Kiribati ranks 115 out of 183 countries in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business report (2011), which implies it has room to improve in terms of creating a well-balanced business environment, though it ranks decently for its tax regime and protecting investors.
