Find Trade Union expertise in Kiribati

The Kiribati Trade Union Congress (KTUC) is the national trade union organisation of Kiribati, and has over 2,500 members. The KTUC is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation. There are no official public-sector trade unions, but many nurses and teachers belong to voluntary employee associations similar to unions and constitute approximately 30 to 40 percent of total union and association membership. Therefore employees have to negotiate work conditions. The law provides for the right to strike, but strikes are rare. The most prominent unions are the Fishermen’s Union, the Seamen’s Union, and the Teachers’ Union.
