Independent schools in Kiribati are exclusively run by local church groups and organisations. The government usually focuses on primary education, thus leaving the church groups to administer the secondary school sector. These range from private Catholic schools such as the Sacred Hear High School, St. Louis High School and St Joseph’s College; Protestant schools such as Hiram Bingham High School; to those run by the Seventh Day Adventists, Latter Day Saints and the Church of God.
