The Ministry of Foreign Affairs liaises with the foreign diplomats accredited to Lesotho and – through its own embassies, consulates and other missions abroad – with foreign governments and international organisations. As a landlocked country, completely surrounded by South Africa, Lesotho attaches high importance to its relations with that and other countries in the region.
Several countries have embassies, high commissions or consulates in Lesotho, based in the capital, Maseru; these include African countries and trade and development partners, such as Canada, China and the USA.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for several diplomatic missions abroad. These include a high commission in the UK and an embassy in the USA. Lesotho is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the Southern African Development Community.
