The constitution guarantees freedom of the press, which is privately owned and generally partisan. One weekly and two daily newspapers, the Daily Times and The Nation are in English. Radio is the main source of information for most Malawians. The public service, provided by Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), comprises two radio stations; in addition, there are many private/community stations. Television Malawi (TVM) began broadcasting in 1999. Households with satellite dishes can receive many channels via South Africa. The Malawi News Agency is a state-run organisation.
