Find National NGO expertise in Malawi
As Malawi is one of the least developed countries in the world, the role that NGOs and civil society organisations play in the country’s development is invaluable. Numerous NGOs work throughout the country across a variety of areas, including health, education, women’s rights and rural development. The Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi (FAWEMA) undertakes sensitisation activities aimed at teachers and communities regarding HIV/AIDS and girls’ education. The Malawi Social Action Fund (MASAF) aims to empower individuals and communities through a variety of sustainable interventions to assist them in better managing risks associated with health, sanitation and food security. The Non-Governmental Organisation Act, which was introduced in 2001, requires that all international and national NGOs working in Malawi register with the Council for Non-Governmental Organisations in Malawi (CONGOMA) and the NGO Board of Malawi. CONGOMA is the NGO co-ordinating body in Malawi and is responsible for representing and promoting the collective interest of NGOs in Malawi.
