Transport in Malawi

Several international airlines run regular services into Lilongwe and Blantyre. There are two domestic carriers that provide scheduled flights between the main tourist destinations in Malawi, including Mzuzu, the Nyika and Liwonde National Parks, and Likoma Island. Steamer cruises are available on Lake Malawi. The availability of self-drive car hire is increasing, and visitors may drive on an international driving permit for up to one year. Chauffeur-driven cars are also available. Taxis are in short supply and need to be booked in advance. Central East African Railways operates the lines in Malawi, providing train services between the major towns. Malawi has a good bus network within towns and between the main cities. Luxury coaches connect Blantyre to Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
