Malaysia has an adult literacy rate of 92% (2008). The majority of the population speaks English and the other official language is Malay. Other languages include Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Panjabi and several indigenous languages. The workforce is highly skilled with up to 13% being professionals, and another 13% employed as technicians and associate professionals. Foreigners wanting to work in the country require one of three types of permit: an Employment Pass (EP), a Visit Pass (Temporary Employment) or a Visit Pass (Professional). These can be applied for beforehand, or on arrival in Malaysia if one has visited the country before. There is an established sector of employment agencies in the country, including globally known names such as Adecco and Manpower.
