The Malta Stock Exchange (MSE) was established in 1990 as the first stock exchange in the country and lists the largest publically traded companies in Malta. In 2010 the MSE had a total market capitalisation of €8.5 billion, up almost €1 billion from the end of 2009. Some of the largest companies listed in the MSE are: International Hotel Investments PLC, HSBC Malta, GO PLC, and Bank of Valletta. The largest company listed on the MSE is HSBC Malta, which in 2011 held assets of €5 billion.
