The Mauritius Council of Social Service (MACOSS) is the recognised umbrella body for NGOs in Mauritius. With a membership of 204 organisations, MACOSS’ role is to foster co-operation between NGOs, government departments and the international community; it is jointly funded by the European Union, embassies in Mauritius and the Canada Fund. Organisations seeking official recognition as NGOs must apply to the Registrar of Associations’ Office. After a two-year probationary period, an organisation can officially join MACOSS.
