Find Media and Broadcasting expertise in Mozambique
Mozambique is generally seen to enjoy freedom of expression. The constitution protects media freedom; however, criminal libel laws are viewed by independent observers as being restrictive. The prominent daily newspapers are Diário de Moçambique and Notícias, while the weeklies circulated widely include Demos, Zambeze, Domingo, Savana, Fim de Semana and Folha Universal. Radio Mozambique, operated by the state, runs the national network Antena Nacional, as well as provincial and local channels that are broadcast in Portuguese, English and many indigenous languages. The major private networks are Radio Miramar, Nova FM, Radio-Televisao Klint (RTK) and Radio Maria Mozambique, a Roman Catholic station. TVM, operated by the state, is the only national network, and STV, a private network, has the highest ratings. RTP Africa, operated by the Portuguese state, and the Brazilian-owned TV Miramar are also widely watched.
