The Directorate of Higher Education, the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, the Directorate of Student Financial support and Namibia Qualifications Authority, and the Directorate of Science and Technology, Research and Development all work towards the realisation of the mission of the Ministry of Education. The Namibia Training Authority (NTA) provides services to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of vocational education and training. The Directorate of Adult Basic Education provides opportunities for adults in Namibia to acquire knowledge and skills. Teacher Resource Centres (TRCs) is a ministerial initiative to meet the critical needs of un- and under-qualified teachers working in schools.
Public spending on education was 6.4% of GDP in 2007.
Government policy on education aims to increase the number of fully qualified teachers and to raise the quality of education in schools by giving teachers ongoing support and training.
