There are many non-governmental organizations and civil society groups involved in New Zealand’s education sector. The New Zealand Educational Institute is the country’s largest education union, comprising over 50,000 teachers and support staff working in the primary, secondary, early childhood and special education sectors. The New Zealand Parent Teacher Association is a network of Parent Teacher Associations across New Zealand which aims to help parents and teachers work together to achieve the maximum benefit for young people throughout the country. Other notable not-for-profit organisations working in the education sector include, Learning Network New Zealand, who work to connect schools with professional learning opportunities; and Toit? Kaupapa M?ori M?tauranga (M?ori Education Trust) who aim to encourage M?ori into tertiary education.
