Transport in New Zealand

Many major international airlines serve the large airports in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Air New Zealand and Jetstar operate domestic flights between the country’s major airports while Air New Zealand link serves many of the nations smaller airports.

Local and major international car hire firms can be found at airports and many major urban centres providing a range of services. The minimum age for hiring a car in New Zealand is 21 and all international driving licenses are recognised. Taxi and bus services are also widely available throughout the country.

Passenger rail services are limited to urban services in Wellington and Auckland as well as a number of scenic routes directed at tourists offering spectacular views of New Zealand’s landscapes.

Ferry services carry cars and passengers across the Cook Strait between the North and South islands.
