The Ministry of Foreign Affairs directs Nigeria’s foreign policy and its diplomatic relations, and promotes and protects the country’s and its citizens’ interests abroad. Nigeria participates in the Economic Community of West African States, the UN and the Commonwealth, and it is a founding member of the African Union.
Around 70 nations have diplomatic missions in Nigeria, based in Abuja and/or Lagos. These include trade and development partners from Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
Nigeria has around 30 diplomatic missions abroad, including embassies, high commissions and consulates, spanning the continents of Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.
