National Agencies
The federal government and parliament have established many national agencies to work on various projects, ranging from promoting women’s rights to cultural heritage. These agencies have in many cases been created by an act of parliament and public funds are allocated to them to ensure their existence and continued operation.
Examples of such bodies include, to mention a few, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which is designed to eliminate corruption and prosecute white-collar crime; and the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), which examines policies, programmes and other measures for the development of gender equality. The Planning Commission is another important agency, which aims to develop policy to promote economic growth in Pakistan.
