The primary supplier of electricity in Papua New Guinea is Elcom, the government-owned Electricity Commission. Much of the country’s electricity is generated by hydropower stations, with the balance generated by thermal stations. Elcom operates around 20 small independent power systems, which serve about 27 urban centres.
