Education NGOs and CSOs in Papua New Guinea

There are numerous education-based non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) working to ensure that education in Papua New Guinea functions as one of the key building blocks in the country’s development. International NGOs and development partners have agreed to collaborate in establishing a pool of Papua New Guinea (PNG) nationals available to work with development agencies in establishing a Career in Development (CiD) to increase the number of educated PNG nationals seeking a career in the development sector; bilateral agencies and development partners, AusAID and NZAID, have agreed to meet a substantial amount of the costs of CiD. NGOs working in the country include HELP (Health, Education, Livelihood and Participation), which seeks to build a stronger society in Papua New Guinea; the Youth and Mental Health (YMH) Project of the Foundation of the Peoples of the South Pacific International (FSPI), which seeks to raise awareness of mental health issues among communities, policy-makers and the private sector through education; and Save the Children Fund, which is actively involved in various educational initiatives.
