Essentials in Papua New Guinea

All passports must be valid for at least 12 months after entry for foreign nationals wishing to enter the country. Visas are also necessary upon entry. A tourist visa is valid for 60 days, and a visa for business trips is valid for 12 months, though the maximum period of stay for both is 60 days. It is always advisable to contact your nearest embassy, consulate or high commission for the most up-to-date information. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers over one year of age arriving within six days from potentially infected areas. Immunisation against typhoid, hepatitis A, malaria and tetanus is recommended. Vaccinations against tuberculosis, Japanese B encephalitis and hepatitis B are also sometimes recommended. Travellers are advised to take out full health insurance that includes evacuation facilities. Water should be boiled before being consumed.
