Saint Lucia is a net importer of goods and services. Its net imports accounted for 14% of GDP in 2005, and the average ad valorem tariff for imported goods was 9% in 2009. The majority of Saint Lucia’s imports come from the US and are focused around foodstuffs, machinery and equipment, chemicals, fertilisers, minerals and fuels. The UK is the main single destination for Saint Lucia’s exports, with popular products including bananas, clothing, Caribbean rum, coconut oil and manufactured items such as transport equipment. In the 2000s manufactured products were known to account for around a third of Saint Lucia’s total exports.
