Standards and Regulation in Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia ranks number 52 out of 183 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index (2011), with particularly high scores obtained for ‘dealing with construction permits’ and ‘getting electricity’. A high ranking on the Ease of Doing Business Index means the regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of local businesses. Saint Lucia is a member of the International Organisation for Standardisation, with the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards acting as the country’s coordinating body. The Eastern Caribbean Securities Regulatory Commission (ECSRC) is Saint Lucia’s principal economic regulator, and also serves other countries in the Eastern Caribbean Securities Market (ECSM).
