In St Lucia the Trade Union Federation, which was established in 2005, represents all trade unions in the country with the exception of the National Workers Union (NWU). The Trade Union Federation works as a unit to address issues of common concern to the island’s trade unions and the workers of the country. The largest trade union on the island is the St Lucia Civil Service Association, followed by the National Workers Union and the Seamen and Waterfront General Workers Union (SWGWTU) which have membership bodies of 3,000 and 1,000 people respectively. Other prominent trade unions include the St Lucia Teachers Union (SLTU), established in 1934, and the Vieux Fort General and Dock Workers Union.
