Construction contributes 13% to the GDP of Samoa (2008). The construction industry underwent a mini-boom due to the rebuilding work in the aftermath of the devastating 2009 tsunami. It certainly does not lack professional expertise in this area, both locally and internationally. Major contractors include Ah Liki Construction, New Zealand’s Fletcher Construction and Ott Transport (the latter specializes in roads). Meanwhile regional engineering consultancy Kramer Ausenco also has a local presence. The South Pacific Engineers Association is the regional organisation which helps local and national bodies, in its member states, to improve standards in engineering.
