The insurance industry in Samoa is healthy, with around four firmly established companies: the  National  Pacific  Insurance  Company  Limited (general insurance), Samoa  Life  Assurance  Corporation (life insurance) ,  Colonial Insurance Company  Limited (general) and  Progressive  Insurance  Company  Limited (general). Samoa Life which is a state-owned enterprise operates as a mutual life company where all profits accrue to the policyholders. The largest general insurance company Pacific Insurance Company Limited is a subsidiary of a multi-national group and has been operating in Samoa for nearly thirty years. All general insurance companies offer disaster insurance. There are 50 % of homes insured, with half of them taking the disaster extension insurance, whilst around 25 % of households have contents insurance. The Central Bank of Samoa is the country’s financial regulator.
