Universities and Colleges in Samoa
Samoa’s principal tertiary institution is the National University of Samoa, which was established in 1984 from a merger between the National University and Samoa Polytechnic. The National University’s study programme includes the arts, nursing, education, sciences, engineering and maritime. Samoa was one of the founders of the regional University of the South Pacific (USP), which has its main campus in Suva and a local centre in Apia offering a wide range of courses. USP’s School of Agriculture and Institute for Research, Extension and Training in Agriculture is located at the Alafua Campus in Apia. Approximately 10% of persons of relevant age are enrolled in higher education and there is virtually no illiteracy among people aged 15-24 (2005).
