National Agencies

The government of Samoa has established national agencies in order to carry out some of the responsibilities that would usually be undertaken by government ministries. These institutions are publicly funded bodies, corporations or authorities whose establishment is often backed by an act of parliament.

Corporations often refer to companies which run the nationalised industries, with examples including the Electric Power Corporation, SamoaPost and Samoa Shipping Corporation Ltd. Other national agencies help to promote specific sectors of the economy such as the Samoa Tourism Authority national and the Small Business Enterprise Centre. Others regulate certain sectors of the economy; examples include the Central Bank of Samoa and Office of the Regulator. The Samoa Airport Authority and the Samoa Ports Authority manage infrastructure.
