Education NGOs and CSOs in South Africa

There are several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) working in the South African education sector. NAPTOSA (National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa) and SADTU (South African Democratic Teachers Union) are the largest representative bodies for teachers in South Africa. In 2007, a South African education NGO, GOLD (Generation of Leaders Discovered), won first prize at the Commonwealth Education Good Practice Awards. The NRF (National Research Foundation) supports and promotes research through funding, human resource development and the provision of the necessary research facilities in all fields of natural and social sciences, humanities and technology.
