Sri Lanka is a net importer of goods and services with net imports accounting for 11% of GDP in 2007. The average ad valorem tariff for imported goods is 11.2% (2008). The main commodities that the country imports include textile fabrics, machinery and equipment, petroleum and various foodstuffs. Among Sri Lanka’s export commodities are textiles and apparel, tea and spices, rubies, fish and rubber. The biggest markets the country exports to are the USA, UK, and India. The country’s exports are promoted internationally by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board.
