Sri Lanka currently imports 100% of its crude oil requirements and 50% of its petroleum product requirements. All downstream activities including the importing, refining, storing, distributing and retailing of petroleum products are carried out by the state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. The only other oil company operating in Sri Lanka is Lanka IOC, a subsidiary of IndianOil Corporation that operates retail petrol and diesel stations throughout the country. There is a downstream market for liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas has recently been discovered in Chilaw, North Western Province.
